Actually, though

In an average, the solves that survive the trim, the ones actually being averaged after the fastest and slowest are dropped.

The phrase usually shows up as ‘counting 19’ or ‘counting DNF’: a bad solve that was not bad enough to be dropped, so it stays in and drags the whole average with it.
