Method

Everyone says it’s easy until the timer starts.

Actually, though

The first step of CFOP: place the four edges of one face so they match the centres around them. Usually done on the bottom so the next step is already visible.

Every cross can be solved in eight moves or fewer, and good cubers plan the whole thing during inspection. It is the cheapest place to save time and the easiest place to waste it.
